‘Star Wars’ Exhibit Breaks Records at U.S. Space & Rocket Center

HUNTSVILLE, AL. – History was made Monday at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center.

Sunday’s attendance at the center’s exhibit, “Star Wars: Where Science Meets Imagination,” put the exhibit’s visitation total at more than 90,000 people.

“We didn’t have a preset goal because this was the first time we had an exhibit of this magnitude,” said Geoff Abrams, director of special exhibit operations. “But, we are more than pleased at what we have done.”

Since its official debut June 25, the well-received exhibit has made quite a few attendance records for the U.S. Space & Rocket Center. Even on its last day, the parking lot and ticket lines were packed with last-minute folks waiting to catch a glimpse of what has been hailed as the 2010 Alabama Event of the Year. more…

A year in the making, “Star Wars” exhibit now open at U.S. Space & Rocket Center

HUNTSVILLE, AL – At 7:30 a.m., Heather Finley and her son, 10-year-old son Grayson Finley, waited outside the U.S. Space & Rocket Center. The Finleys, from Bentonville, Ark., drove 10 hours to see “Star Wars: Where Science Meets Imagination.”

“We planned our whole vacation around the opening of the ‘Star Wars’ exhibition,” Finley said. “We are really big ‘Star Wars’ fans.”

Following a year of planning and a month-long installation process, the space center opened the much-anticipated “Star Wars” exhibit on Friday morning. The countdown sign facing Interstate 565 reads “Now Open.” more…
