Make-A-Wish’s “Festival for Wishes”

Event News — Daisy @ 12:45 am

Huntsville, AL – June 30, 2007: On Saturday, loyal troopers traveled from as far away as the Gulf Coast of Alabama and the far reaches of Nashville, Tennessee, to attend The Make-A-Wish Foundation’s “Festival for Wishes” event in Huntsville, AL.

Originally, Make-A-Wish had scheduled a “Walk for Wishes” event in Huntsville, on April 14th… unfortunately, that event was rained-out 20 minutes into it, so the “Festival for Wishes” was soon scheduled as a “make-up event”.

The festival was held at the Cahaba Shrine grounds in Huntsville, with the facilities being donated by the Shriner’s. There were arts & crafts, carnival games (where every kid won a prize!), a moon bounce, Shriner’s clowns, a roving magician, a search and rescue dog team, the Huntsville Police department, the Huntsville Fire Department, BBQ, snow cones, cotton candy, and lots of fun… courtesy of the Alabama Garrison!

Not only was this a successful event for Make-A-Wish, but for 501st as well. We were contacted by the Shriner’s to headline an event in December benefiting the children of Afghanistan and Iraq-stationed military personnel. The Mayor and Governor are expected to be there. We were also contacted by the Huntsville Police Department to help them with a community children’s’ block party next March. Finally, the Volunteer Center contacted us about participating in future events. These 3 contacts will lead to multiple opportunities for the Garrison over the coming years, and our participation in this single Make-A-Wish event is to thank.

Thanks again, troops! Job well done.
